Why do you need an editor?
I'm a writer and an editor - so I understand what it's like to see a story from both viewpoints, the creative and the critical. But without having used an editor myself, I wouldn't be either.
Flash back to 2017 and I was ready to query my novel. I was naïve enough to think my manuscript was finished, but wise enough to want a professional opinion, just to be sure. I paid for a manuscript critique, and when I read the report, I knew it had been money well spent.
It wasn't that my book was bad, rather, I hadn't written it to its full potential. There were elements missing that I couldn't see, being as close to the story as I was.
Once I made the necessary changes, I knew the book was stronger for it. I went on to sign with an agent, shortlist in the Bath Children's Novel Award, and get a publishing deal.
You might think you've gone as far as you can on your own and, like me, want to check you've not missed anything. Or you might know there's an issue that needs fixing but you just can't figure out how.
